Today I started the day with a long list of good intentions and tasks on my to-do list, but several other pressing matters needed attending to, like housework and these cute kittens
at the Marin Humane Society.
The Society’s temporarily reduced their usual $100 adoption fee to $50. For a CCL (crazy cat lady) like me, that’s like a Feline Friends & Family Sale!
Gee, I can get two for the price of one!?

Makeup resolve weakening…
Stila resistance futile…
I went to bed last night thinking about Stila’s lovely hot pink Custom Color Blush ($20). I heard it calling to me from Sephora (I live just five minutes away).
“Karen,” it whispered in my ear.
“Karen, come play with me.”
Um, okay.
Like a mood ring for cheeks, Custom Color Blush reacts with skin pH (a measure of acidity or basicity), changing color based on the wearer’s body chemistry.
Part of the company’s fall collection, it’s one of the more sci-fi products I’ve seen in a while. With what Stila calls a “spherical silicone elastomer treated powder,” it supposedly also diffuses incoming light, resulting in a soft-focus effect that, according to Stila, softens the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Hmm…

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are,
Up above the world so high,
Like some Stila in the sky!
Like the brightest stars
on a crystal clear night, the shadows in the new Stila Backstage Eye Palette twinkle just a little brighter than every other fall product that crossed my path at Sephora yesterday.
Affordable ($28), and filled with fun colors, Backstage looks lovely in its pretty purple packaging.

I got a nice surprise when I stopped by Sephora after work today. Sometimes the store near my house takes a while to put new stuff out on their shelves (they also had holiday items out until MARCH), so I couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted fall makeup from Stila, Too Faced and TheBalm (YES!).
Were they just a mirage? I wondered. I pulled out my camera to capture the photographic evidence.

Now HERE’s a makeup trend I can totally get behind: $10 department store makeup palettes!
Who knew that when Urban Decay launched their $14 Face Case earlier this year it would be the first salvo fired in a budget beauty battle for eyes, lips and cheeks?
Um, can I just say that as far as makeup trends are concerned…budget-friendly travel palettes are like a billion times cooler than vibrating mascara wands? They make my inner bargainista want to raise the roof (1998-style)!
The limited edition Stila Road to Radiance Across the USA palette is the first of five new limited edition $10 Stila travel palettes visiting over the coming months, each one inspired by the fashion, people and colors of different Stila girls around the world (the company plans to release one more of them every month through November).
Road to Radiance (that’s her above) comes with four smallish cool-toned powder shadows and a neutral pink cream product for cheeks and lips. Bought separately, the full-size versions of these same products would normally cost $65, which makes the $10 price tag look even better.
