Rudy Guiliani’s daughter, Caroline, is in the spotlight recently because she was caught shoplifting from Sephora. This perplexes me as she did have an abundant amount of money in her wallet and her father is worth around $60 million. Lilit has an interesting theory on why she was shoplifting:

“I suspect that she was picking up her products for her dad. But I don’t know if Sephora sells Rogaine or Hair-in-a Can.”

Well, her father is the ball-busting lawyer turned mayor who brought in many, big bad criminals. Caroline must be in a lot of trouble at home. Unless she was picking up some products for her father, in that case, he owes her one. Which brings us to our burning question… what would you shoplift from Sephora?

Woohoo! LVMH Sales Are Up, Like, A Lot

The reason conglomerates exist is so that when one area of the business is slowing, the others are hopefully growing.

For LVMH, 2010 is proving to be a good year for not just a few, but all of its subsidiaries.

Sales over the first half of 2010 totaled €9.1 billion, or about $11.8 billion, a 16% jump from the first half of 2009. Everything from wine and spirits to Louis Vuitton to Sephora to Donna Karan are performing well everywhere from the US to Asia. What’s more, profits were up by a whopping 33% to €1.8 million, or around $2.3 million.

With things looking this good, expect LVMH to do some buying and selling come August. Big luxury brands tend to do the deals at the end of summer–probably because Europe is on vacation, which means less snooping around by the press. So while PPR’s vie for Burberry could be the biggest deal of the year, except something interesting from LVMH, too. Indeed, luxury brands are really killing it this year.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. It’s a manicure. And we like to think of it as heroine chic. We’re not sure if your manicurist is skilled enough to recreate this super awesome design (we don’t want to diss your manicurist, but maybe you should carry around this picture until you find a manicurist who can) but, even if the Batman design isn’t in the cards (the Joker’s cards) you can find some pretty cool decals through OPI’s Chic Prints for Nails. They’re available at Sephora for $15 each, and will probably last longer than your standard manicure.

If You Keep Using Those Makeup Testers You Are Going To Get Herpes

Sometimes, you wander into, oh, say, Sephora, and you decide that try on some of the blush from their tester container. And sometimes that leads to a daub of lipgloss and some eyeshadow, and then you leave looking pretty. And as you walk away, you’re a little bit proud of yourself on not having spent money.

Yeah, congratulatons, now you’ve got the Herp.

Or ecoli. Or a staph infection. Or strep throat. Something. You’ve definitely got something, because a recent study found that the percentage of tainted tester make-up was a shocking 100%.

Of course, some items carry less risk than others. Lotion that squeezes out of a bottle is okay, but with other moisutrizers you’re exposing yourself to problems like people going to the bathroom, not washing their hands, sticking their fingers in the cream and thereby transmitting ecoli to you. Lipstick transmits herpes. And mascara – God, let’s not even talk about mascara. However, if we were going to talk about it, we’d mention conjuctivitis.

Anyhow, now Sephora is approximately 100% less fun. Happy Tuesday!
