The 12 Coolest Fashion Week Invites

Once August hits, NYC mailmen and messengers are working over-time, all in the name of fashion. Publicists, designers, and graphic artists have been sketching, planning, and collaborating—and not just on the shows themselves. Invites, while perhaps not as important, have also been on their minds for a goodly while, for what's more representative of upcoming collections than the invitations that precede them? While we got our fair share of standard stock (in one case, a plain xeroxed sheet of paper that wasn't trying to be ironic), there were a couple of missives that caught our eye. The best of the bunch includes fantastical dioramas (Tommy Hilfiger), delicate macaroons (Honor), and a pencil-and-paper set that we can't wait to use (Hexa by Kuho). Maybe they're not so great for the environment, but we've rounded up 12 rad invites that sure look good on our desks.

New Models To Watch This Fashion Week

New York is crawling with lithe, young models right now—you can hardly step onto a train or cross the street without being poked by some sharp catwalker's elbow. In honor of the influx of new models filing into the city, we decided to do our own little casting call of the top 12 newest, freshest models taking to the tents for the spring '11 fashion shows. We scoured the internet as well as asked casting director Julia Samersova from Cast, Inc. about who are on the brink of making it big. We have a feeling these girls are going to be opening and closing shows like it's nobody's business.

Silhouettes come in great new colors and materials, while they slowly expand the collection into new areas, introducing new footwear styles.

Sascha Pivovarova is featured in an editorial for “The Season’s Must Haves” in H&M Magazine’s Autumn 2010 issue, photographed by David Vasiljevic and styled by Veronique Dridy. H&M listed the coat, the trenchcoat, the pantsuit, the bootcut jean, the men’s shirt, the scarf, the glove, the skirt, the vest, the poncho and the city’s shorts as their must haves. We have been fans of the Canon G-Series ever since the G9 and now Nikon is finally offering an alternative. Next to 10.1 megapixels and a 7.1 optical zoom, the camera also lets you record HD video. We are definitely looking forward to test it out in the coming weeks!

Nowness Presents: Darcel at New York Fashion Week

Nowness worked with illustrator Craig Redman to turn his iconic character Darcel, into some of fashion’s most recognizable personalities for this first film during New York Fashion Week.

“Yes, Darcel sets off today on an intercontinental trip to cover the spring 2011 catwalks exclusively for NOWNESS. First stop is New York Fashion Week, whose preeminent trendsetters—Ralph Lauren, Tavi, Alexander Wang, André Leon Talley, Freja Erichsen, Marc Jacobs, Kim Hastreiter, Alexander Wang and, of course, Anna Wintour—star in today’s Brady Bunch-style introductory film. From tomorrow, as the shows begin to kick off, our ovoid friend will be reporting from the fashionable front line, delivering a daily Darcelism on his trials, which will available exclusively on NOWNESS and can be reached by clicking on the appropriate link in the “Today’s Stories” panel, or the the banner at the top of this page. Darcel’s travels will continue through October, where he will end up in Paris, via London and Milan, and on the first day of each fashion week he will debut a new animated film.”

Junya Watanabe MAN x Tricker’s Super Boot Fall/Winter 2010

For the second time this season, Junya Watanabe MAN gets together with Tricker’s. This time they present the Super Boot, which comes with a waxed calf leather upper, two color laces and a crepe outsole. Overall a very solid looking boot. It is now available from Tres Bien.

Sophnet Fall/Winter 2010 Collection – New Releases

Sophnet will release some fantastic pieces from their Fall/Winter 2010 Collection this weekend. The Tuxedo Jacket comes with a black upper and a camouflage lining. Matching they present a silk wool vest. Also nice is the Paraffin Cloth Field Blouson, a re-interpretation of a classic Barbour hunting jacket, featuring an all-over camouflage pattern and corduroy collar.
