Zoe Saldana was spotted shopping in Beverly Hills emanating smooth finesse in skinny jeans and a black Henley top. I adore how the Avatar star – love the movie, by the way – kept the mood sexy by accessorizing with peep-toe pumps, Chanel bag, and a leopard print scarf. Now that’s how you make an outfit pop.

Without the designers who defined the decade, the models of the decade would be naked. Here are 15 renegades who stand out as artisans and advocates of our favorite industry. These are the tastemakers, trendsetters, troublemakers. Men and women, singles and duos, inspiration oozes out of these individuals, from their fingers, onto the paper, into the fabric, and, eventually, onto the runway. We salute you. Here’s to another stellar decade!

It’s a big day in nail polish news!
We just got official word that Chanel’s Spring 2010 runway nail polish shade, Particulière (top left) will hit counters in January 2010.
Hotly anticipated, as most of the company’s runway polishes are (remember The Jade?), Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Particulière (505) is a putty-ish shade that worked on the runway as a smart accessory to the mainly monotone beige, gray, ivory and black nubby weaves shown in the spring show. The shade also offered an edgy counterpoint to the tattoos global creative director Peter Philips designed for the show.

Speaking of which, Chanel’s spring imagery, at left, features a model with a Chanel tattoo, echoing the models on the runway.
We’re wondering if the tattoos will be made in temporary versions, since, well, it’s all the rage to get designer tattoos. This would be perfect for those of us who love us some Chanel, but aren’t crazy devoted enough to ink it forever on our bodies (but check out our Designer Tattoos gallery to see people who are!)
The rest of Chanel’s spring collection features poetic, moody shades, that the company calls “clean, classic neutrals that are infinitely wearable and effortlessly chic.” The collection of pinks, beiges, browns and khakis are meant to enhance the complexion and illuminate the face to bring out our natural beauty.
Besides the nail polish, the product we’re most excited about is Empriente De Chanel, a limited edition highlighting powder featuring shimmering shades of rosewood, beige and brown to give skin a naturally luminous warmth.

Two looks from Chanel’s Paris-Shanghai Pre-Fall 2010 Collection. Photo: Courtesy of Chanel
Designer: Chanel Paris-Shanghai Pre Fall 2010 Collection
Inspiration: Chanel does Shanghai, “a city in constant evolution, a cosmopolitan theater to an extraordinary cultural boom”
Who was there: Actress and Chanel muse, Anna Mouglalis, chanteuse Vanessa Paradis, and Chinese starlets Zhou Xun, Shin Min Ah, and Hou Hong Lan
Top Looks: Grey tiled and red peak shouldered cocktail dress which opened the show; Yellow over-the-knee boots, under a black embroidered coat with long metal tassel earrings; Navy and black “soldier suit” trimmed with metal, with embroidered silk over-the-knee boots and coolie hat; Updated cheongsams; Jade green sweater suit with navy trim; Ankle revealing evening gowns-either by sheer panels or by cut
What we thought: This wild Chanel-chinoiserie mix was a spectacular feast for the senses. The set alone was awe-inspiring. Located on a barge in the Huangpu River, it was slick and black, and acted as a vehicle to capture the night scape of Shanghai’s Pudong’s skyscrapers as a backdrop.
In the show, Lagerfeld kept to a specific palette of red (of course), navy, royal blue, black, and a powdery jade green. Black leather leggings embedded rosettes will obtain immediate cult status and are sure to be on the wish lists of “It-girls” everywhere. The loose interpretation of the Terracotta Soldiers in military-esque shapes and textures (like quilting) meant for some exciting looks.
Accessories were the true dazzlers, as to be expected from Chanel. Thigh high boots with shiny zippers from top to toe were sensational-especially in Chinese red leather. There were Coolie hats, military caps, and lots of pins and jewelry in the hair (as we saw for Spring). Jewelry consisted of extra large flowing metal tassels, primary in outsize earrings, but also necklaces and lariats. Fabrics were rich and heavily embellished. There was no lack of luxury in this town and country where more is more, and status is everything.
Chanel is a perfect fit on the Bund.
